Molly tops off an incredible season with a silver medal for Victoria
In just her second year in the sport, Carrum Rowing Club athlete Molly Sawyer has quickly established herself as one of the sport’s most exciting rising talents, putting together an outstanding season defined by rapid improvement, resilience, and an ever-growing list of achievements.
From the very beginning of the season, Molly has gone from strength to strength, embracing every training session and racing opportunity with focus and determination. Her progression has been nothing short of impressive, as she continues to develop both technically and competitively against some of the strongest fields in the country.
Molly’s performances at the State Championships were a standout highlight. Following an impressive campaign in the single where she placed 4th in the Open Schoolgirl event and 5th in Under 19 single (having just turned 17!), Molly helped power her A grade four crew to a gold medal, and also stepped up into the Open quad, taking on older and more experienced competitors, and came away with a silver medal.
Her success continued at the Head of the Schoolgirls regatta, where Molly placed an impressive 5th in the Open Single, winning the B final in a commanding display.
At the Australian National Championships, Molly once again proved she belongs among the best, finishing 10th in the Schoolgirl Single in a highly competitive field of over 50 scullers from across the country.
Capping off an exceptional season, Molly was selected to represent Victoria at the Pathway Regatta at SIRC. Racing against the top emerging athletes nationwide, she played a key role in securing a silver medal in the quad for the Big White V - a fitting reward for her hard work and consistency throughout the year.
Beyond her results, Molly has demonstrated a level of commitment, maturity, and professionalism that sets her apart. As our only competing junior this season, she embraced the chance to learn from older, more experienced teammates - always willing to step into any crew combination at training, and her positive attitude contributes strongly to the culture of our squad.
With such a strong start to her rowing journey, there is no doubt that Molly has an exciting future ahead. The entire club looks forward to seeing what she achieves next.
